Oversees multiple Process Development projects in support of our Strategic Plan and is accountable for providing technical leadership in the planning, evaluating, and developing of new technologies and processes and executing the successful transfer of new processes to manufacturing facilities.  Primary technical emphasis on snack extrusion and extrusion process development.  Manages all aspects of the projects, including assigned resources, and is accountable for planning, organizing and directing all pilot plant production operations.  Maintains a high level of business acumen.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • 40%   Lead the development of new processes and products, focusing on delivering to internal and external requirements including: consumer/customer requirements, efficiency, productivity, reliability, and adaptability for commercial scale up. Support Product Development, Marketing & Innovation in the development and implementation of new products, line extensions and product improvements.  Develops and maintains extrusion expertise in support of new and existing processes.
  • 30%   Manage the development and transfer of new technologies and processes from the bench/lab area to full pilot line production, to commercialization, establishing quality assurance specifications, process specifications and frequency of tests for process control.   Plan and coordinate all activities for the transfer of new processes/products to Operations.
  • 20%  Directs and conducts laboratory and pilot plant experiments involving products and processes necessary to execute projects.  Brings tests to conclusion, analyzes data, reports results, solve problems, and makes recommendations.
  • 10%   Provide technical support to Marketing/Sales, Technology, and Operations teams in troubleshooting and solving process performance problems.  Provide technical support to customers by recommending appropriate technical solutions for product or process parameters.


Education and/or Experience

Masters of Science in Chemical Engineering or Food Engineering preferred.  Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) from a four-year college or university in engineering and seven years related experience including two years of experience developing unique food processes in the food industry and 1-3 years supervisory experience.  Experience demonstrating technical extrusion excellence is required.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to learn and use new systems. Optiva Database software; Development software; Human Resource systems; Internet software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Project Management software; MS Word and Excel, Outlook Calendar, TIMEX, and Optiva.

Other Qualifications

Travel within a 60 mile local area required.  Travel beyond that will be required on a project basis.  Travel is typically 10% – 20%, but may be as high as 75%, as the projects require.

Job Summary:

We are representing an established food processor based in Idaho who needs to hire a talented QA Manager to join their team. This position will be responsible to supervise and lead quality assurance technicians to ensure proper execution of all procedures to keep compliant with all safety and food safety regulations, quality standards, and legal requirements

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Monitor packaging quality performance against standards to ensure success of the daily packaging operations.
  • Notify management of any production, safety, quality or environment concerns within the facility.
  • Coordinate, schedule and track all product to packaging lines to meet scheduled Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Continuously promote quality awareness and assists management with quality training programs.
  • Ensure open and frequent communication and teamwork across all departments.
  • Supervise and oversee QA technicians and Special Services group;.
  • Interpret GMP, AIB, and FDA regulations, and confers with management or staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
  • Manage routine department activities and assists Supervisor/Lead to control those activities.
  • Create a team environment.
  • Select products for tests at specified stages in production process, and tests products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, flavor, color, breakage, and other characteristics.
  • Conduct and present regular food safety and defense training with all plant team members (i.e. HACCP, GMP’s, etc.)
  • Conduct regular internal food safety and defense audits to verify 1st Time Quality;
  • Ensure that plant is tour and audit ready at all times.
  • Take charge of customer and other regulatory plant audits.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to motivate team efforts to accomplish goals.
  • Well organized and able to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient PC skills in MS Office and database management.
  • Able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Able to travel to all areas of the plant efficiently, including climbing stairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from leads, managers, and co-workers. Ability to solve practical problems and deals with variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral, diagram, or scheduled form.
