Summary

Oversees multiple Process Development projects in support of our Strategic Plan and is accountable for providing technical leadership in the planning, evaluating, and developing of new technologies and processes and executing the successful transfer of new processes to manufacturing facilities.  Primary technical emphasis on snack extrusion and extrusion process development.  Manages all aspects of the projects, including assigned resources, and is accountable for planning, organizing and directing all pilot plant production operations.  Maintains a high level of business acumen.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • 40%   Lead the development of new processes and products, focusing on delivering to internal and external requirements including: consumer/customer requirements, efficiency, productivity, reliability, and adaptability for commercial scale up. Support Product Development, Marketing & Innovation in the development and implementation of new products, line extensions and product improvements.  Develops and maintains extrusion expertise in support of new and existing processes.
  • 30%   Manage the development and transfer of new technologies and processes from the bench/lab area to full pilot line production, to commercialization, establishing quality assurance specifications, process specifications and frequency of tests for process control.   Plan and coordinate all activities for the transfer of new processes/products to Operations.
  • 20%  Directs and conducts laboratory and pilot plant experiments involving products and processes necessary to execute projects.  Brings tests to conclusion, analyzes data, reports results, solve problems, and makes recommendations.
  • 10%   Provide technical support to Marketing/Sales, Technology, and Operations teams in troubleshooting and solving process performance problems.  Provide technical support to customers by recommending appropriate technical solutions for product or process parameters.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Masters of Science in Chemical Engineering or Food Engineering preferred.  Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) from a four-year college or university in engineering and seven years related experience including two years of experience developing unique food processes in the food industry and 1-3 years supervisory experience.  Experience demonstrating technical extrusion excellence is required.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to learn and use new systems. Optiva Database software; Development software; Human Resource systems; Internet software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Project Management software; MS Word and Excel, Outlook Calendar, TIMEX, and Optiva.

Other Qualifications

Travel within a 60 mile local area required.  Travel beyond that will be required on a project basis.  Travel is typically 10% – 20%, but may be as high as 75%, as the projects require.

Plant Manager, Idaho Falls, ID  (Food Industry)  

Summary

Oversees, directs, and monitors plant manufacturing and associated support activities.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Oversees development of the plant budget (fixed and variable costs) and capital plan (infrastructure) to support the company business plan. Facilitate the efficient use of raw materials in the conversion to finished goods for our customers. Manages facility manufacturing organization through support of shift supervision on a day to day basis.  Directs functional support groups as necessary to meet manufacturing objectives.  Oversees development, implementation and sustainability of process improvements and enhancements to reduce costs.
  2. Monitors manufacturing and supporting processes to ensure products are delivered on time at the lowest total cost by conforming exactly to the customer’s requirements.  Provides appropriate customer support as requested.
  3. Directs plant safety programs. Ensures a safe working environment for all employees. Monitors safety performance and assures compliance with established policies, procedures and goals.  Achieves high levels of product safety by compliance to all applicable Federal and State laws and statues, Company policies and customer requirements.  Models the way with regard to performing safety observations on a regular basis.
  4. Establishes a working environment that allows employees every opportunity to reach their potential. Directs all related activities for Shift Superintendents and hourly employees including employee selection, appraisals and development plans, counseling and motivation, and compensation for direct reports.  Ensures a proactive approach to training and developing employees is consistently followed.
  5. Oversees development, operation and enhancement of processes that protect the land, environment, and natural resources.  Assures compliance with all applicable company policy, as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
  6. Supports the local community through contributions that have a meaningful impact on the welfare of its citizens. Maintains an active and positive presence in the community and encourages the involvement of other employees in community and political activities.

Education and/or Experience:  

Bachelor of Science degree preferably in engineering and eight to ten years of experience with a minimum of five years leadership in a manufacturing environment.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, comprehend, and compose simple to complex instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information verbally in one-on-one to large group (20+) situations at all levels of the organization.  Ability to effectively facilitate meetings.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to creatively apply experience and common sense to a variety of situations, processes and people.  Ability to make technical decisions and support others team members on technical issues.  Ability to manage many projects concurrently.  Ability to recognize areas for improvement and motivate others to take action to correct problems.

Computer Skills:

Strong computer skills for effective use of planning software tools and the Microsoft Office suite.

Physical Demands:

The individual must be capable of carrying up to 25lbs while traveling.  This position requires 10-25% travel.

Work Environment:

The employee is regularly in a traditional office environment in a production facility.  However, while performing the duties of this job, the employee may also be near moving mechanical equipment and may be regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.  The employee may occasionally access high, precarious places and may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and extreme heat.  The noise level may be loud at times, requiring hearing protection.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Director Quality and Regulatory Operations,

Idaho Falls, Idaho.

The Director of Quality and Regulatory Operations will direct food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance of domestic and international sales. Oversee administration of quality systems and documentation that ensures compliance with third party, regulatory, customer, and religious requirements.  This position will also make regulatory and quality documentation available to customers, Marketing, Sales, Technology, and Operations along with develop a QRO operating plan that aligns departmental goals with corporate strategic initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Use independent judgment to develop and implement a long term strategy to drive quality excellence in regards to food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance of domestic and international products produced at all divisions. Provide a transition of new products between Product Development and Operations. Review potential acquisitions for food safety and quality compliance.

Oversee the quality and regulatory expectations of ingredient and packaging suppliers.

Provide overall leadership to all organizational recall and product retrievals.  Interact directly with the USFDA, USDA, and any customers to meet food standards set by individual entities.

Provide expert guidance and council for customers and top management as required. Direct compliance of customer requirements for quality, GMP/food safety, and product specifications.  Review and approve customer contracts relative to meeting customer requirements of food quality and food safety.

Provide strategic direction for the administration and development of the Technology Information Management Exchange that is the backbone of Quality Systems, Policies, and Procedures.  Make regulatory and quality documentation available to customers and Marketing, Sales, Technology, and Operations.

Facilitate and direct the strategic goals of the QRO department to meet the individual needs of each facility and align the goals with corporate strategic initiatives.
